Amarok (Amaroq, Amaguq) means wolf in Inuit. In Inuit mythology, a giant wolf that hunts alone. Word of mouth tells the story of a boy who inherited the title of tribal chief when he was young. Because he was small and weak, he decided to draw strength from the legendary Amarok. On the moon, the boy summoned a giant wolf, larger than even a polar bear. Amarok told the boy that if he had the will, he would become the greatest ruler of his tribe.
